The Production
In the fall of 2008, BAYCAT (Bayview Hunters Point Center for Arts and Technology) produced a narrative short film The Point shot on location in The Bayview Hunters Point district of San Francisco. Production took place over 10 weeks utilizing the talents of three members of the BAYCAT studio internship program; Jose (cinematography), Dina (sound design) and LaToya (graphic design).
Filming took place in over 20 locations and featured over 15 actors, most of whom are residents of the community. Throughout the entire production process, from development to post-production, BAYCAT held community engagement and collaboration as the highest priority, working with extraordinary folks in every role imaginable, from consultants, crew, actors, production liaisons, location managers, and so much more. Residents excitedly opened their homes and businesses to the camera and our crew, shooting all along 3rd street and in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The rigorous internship held the highest standards in production quality, resulting in a visually breathtaking film. Having filmed over the span of three weeks, we took advantage of the dynamic landscapes in and around BVHP to highlight the key areas that illustrate poignant visual contradictions of industrial relics in residential spaces on the move.
