BAYCAT educates, empowers and employs youth and young adults to produce digital media that tells their unique stories and engages them to positively transform themselves, their communities, and the world.
The Digital Divide is not news anymore. But it continues to grow and evolve.
Many young people in the Bay Area’s underserved neighborhoods are being left behind. They are not equipped to build a future in the digital creative field.
That’s what BAYCAT is changing.
Through education, employment and entertainment in digital media, we empower underserved youth and young adults, helping them find their place in the world.
A new model to reduce the creative digital divide.
We teach digital media at BAYCAT ACADEMY, an internationally-acclaimed media school for underserved kids, ages 11-17, and young adults, ages 18-24.
We employ our graduates at BAYCAT STUDIO, where they partner with media professionals to create marketing materials for socially-minded organizations.
We produce award-winning short films with BAYCAT PRODUCTIONS, so our kids can share their stories and positively transform their communities.
BAYCAT believes that every person’s story matters. We envision a world where media and technology facilitate the telling and the hearing of stories from the broadest possible range of experiences in a way that moves people to create positive change in their communities.
We believe in running a nonprofit like a business, and in changing the philanthropy model. That’s why we created the “clonor” model, where clients become donors, and donors become clients.
Education is critical for the future of young kids, but it needs to connect to employment. Through BAYCAT STUDIO and our relationship with employers in the media field, we create job opportunities for our youth and a clear pathway to employment.
